FireFly 2 Vaporizer Review

It’s been called the “iPhone of vaporizers” by Newsweek and the “best overall vaporizer” for 2016 by Gizmodo. Sure, the FireFly 2 is making headlines, but is it worthy of the title “best portable vaporizer?”

With serious improvements in the function department and a few design tweaks, the FireFly 2 may just be the best in its class. Sleek, modern and exceptionally fast, this is a vaporizer that everyone can use – whether you prefer concentrates or loose-leaf.

If you’ve used the first generation FireFly, you already know how superior this vaporizer is in terms of quality and functionality.

What makes the second generation better?

Loose-Leaf and Concentrates

Sometimes you prefer loose leaf. Other times you prefer concentrates. Now you never have to choose between the two – you can use FireFly 2 with concentrates or loose leaf.

Loose-leaf material can be placed right into the chamber like always, and special FireFly concentrate pads allow you to vaporize oils and waxes.

Now you don’t have to choose between the two – and you don’t need more than one portable vaporizer.

Lighter and Smaller

For starters, the FireFly 2 is 33% smaller and 55% lighter than its predecessor. Admittedly, the original FireFly – as great as it is – is still big and bulky.

The developers listened to users and fixed this problem. The second generation is just 5.1” x 1.4” x 0.95” and is exceptionally lightweight.

Lightning Fast Heat-Up Time

With just the touch of a button, the FireFly 2 heats up to 400 degrees Fahrenheit in three seconds. Yes, three seconds. Look for the little green light on the front of the vaporizer to let you know when it’s good to go.

Customization Through an Intuitive App

The free FireFly app gives you more control over your vaporizer. Easy to use, the app lets you choose between six preset temperatures.

You can even customize the touch sensor activation and keep track of the vaporizer’s battery level.

If you have any questions about the FireFly2, the app’s Information Center offers helpful information on how to get the most out of your vaporizer.

While optional, the app adds a whole new level of personalization to the vaping experience.

Quick and Smart ChargingFireFly 2 Vaporizer

When you run out of juice, the FireFly 2 recharges in record time – just 45 minutes. The new charging cradle speeds up recharge time, and even comes with a USB 3.0 cable that you can connect to your smartphone or tablet charger.

What Hasn’t Changed From The Original Firefly?

FireFly 2 Vape

While the FireFly 2 boasts a lot of upgrades, you’ll find many of the same features that you know and love carried over from the first generation to the second.

Convection Heating

Just like the original FireFly, the second generation still uses dynamic convection heating, which means your material is only heated when you inhale. This unique design ensures that you enjoy all of the aromas and flavors of the material the moment they’re released.

Magnetic Lid and Glass Vapor Path

The FireFly 2 keeps the same magnetic lid design that made the original so easy to use. It still has a borosilicate glass vapor path, too, which ensures the flavor and aroma of your material is pure.

The lid and vapor path also make cleaning and loading simple and easy.

Did we mention that the mouthpiece is easily removed and also contains a particulate filter? And for those of you who are concerned about plastics, you’ll be happy to know that the mouthpiece is made of triton polymer, which is FDA-foodsafe and BPA-free.

Color Choices

The FireFly 2 is also available in a wide range of colors, including: black, red, gold, white and blue.

Why Does the FireFly 2 Beat the Competition?

Part of what makes the FireFly 2 better than the competition is its portability and ease of use. It slips right into your back pocket, and it’s ridiculously easy to use. And because it only has two buttons, you don’t waste time fiddling around trying to change settings.

Just touch the two buttons, and you’re ready to go. It heats up in three seconds or less, so you won’t be waiting long for that green light. And you’ll appreciate being able to use either loose-leaf herbs or concentrates.

The app makes it easy to adjust the temperature settings without interfering with the simplicity of the vaporizer’s design. There are five preset temperatures to choose from:

  • 340F
  • 360F
  • 380F
  • 400F
  • 420F

With these preset options, you can choose the right temperature setting for your material.

Going beyond just temperature control and ease of use, the FireFly 2 beats (or is on par) with some of the best-selling portable vaporizers.

Firefly 2 vs Pax 2 vs Crafty

The Pax 2 and Crafty are two of the most respected and praised portable vaporizers out there. The FireFly 2 has some pretty big shoes to fill if it hopes to dethrone these two. How does the FireFly stack up?

There’s a lot to love about the Pax 2. It’s sleek, it’s pocket-sized and it’s pretty stealthy. It also comes at a lower price than the FireFly.

But price and looks aren’t everything.

The Pax 2 also offers convection heating, so you won’t burn your herbs. But it doesn’t give you the option to use both loose-leaf and herbs. The Pax 2 is only compatible with loose-leaf material.

The Pax 2’s heat-up time is longer, too. It takes 45 seconds to reach your desired temperature, but with the FireFly 2, it takes just three seconds to heat up. The Pax 2’s recharge time is double the FireFly 2’s time.

Both the Pax 2 and the FireFly 2 are excellent vaporizers, but if you’re going to compare specs, the FireFly 2 is the overall better option.

Crafty vs FireFly 2

Crafty app

The Crafty is often touted as one of the best portable vaporizers out there – despite its bigger, bulky size. And it’s made by the same people who brought you the Volcano, so you know the quality is top-notch.

It costs a little bit more than the FireFly 2 and many of the features are similar.

By default, the Crafty is designed for optimal use without needing to fiddle with any settings or press any buttons. But like the FireFly 2, it has a companion app that allows you to adjust a variety of settings to customize your vaping experience.

Like the FireFly 2, the Crafty has just one button. But this button does more than just turn the device on and off. Double-click it and you’ll be able to activate the temperature booster, which raises the oven temp to 383F.

Using full convection hot air, the Crafty won’t burn your material.

But like the Pax 2, you can’t use both loose-leaf and concentrates with this vaporizer – you can only use loose-leaf.

Here again, the FireFly 2 wins out because it’s more affordable, a bit smaller and allows you to vaporize both liquids and concentrates.

The FireFly 2 is one of the best portable vaporizers on the market today and it’s stupid-easy to use. If you’re looking for a top-quality vaporizer that you can take on the go, the FireFly 2 is the clear choice.
